Ditmas Park Blog doesn't feature a single local minority blog

But I have been told that they are doing the best for the neighborhood! Yeah, the white folks in the neighborhood. There are several minority run local blogs that Ditmas Park Blog refuses to display on their front page. By doing this they are depriving these blogs the exposure and traffic that their white counterparts are receiving on a daily basis to get their message and business out there. This is just another example of what Mr. Smith with his feminine lisp and his emasculating "wife" are doing in order to create an all white Ditmas Park Blog.

Shame on them

  1. White counterparts? do you hear yourself? Blaming white people for everything that goes wrong is dumb, and it's just as ignorant as blaming minorities, by your definition, for violence and all things typically associated with that term. I really wish you'd chill out and stop turning a blind eye to the reality of things. once you start looking for something, you'll find it, even when it's not there. if these threats you keep yapping about are indeed real, then tell your "sources" go to the authorities, but i have never, in my life, heard of anything this dramatic stemming from a blog. being that you went to a top university, stop wasting your time on something so petty.

  2. Racist?
    Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Some people are going out of their way to portray this blog — and us — as racist. Some of our neighbors have received emails saying things like, “The Ditmas Park blog has been involved in a number of questionable and racially insensitive post on their blog,” and telling them not to be associated with us.

One of them is a person who used comment here as an older local woman named “Eloise.”

She is, according to her IP address, the same disturbed young woman from Manhattan who has harassed us and other bloggers under a dozen or more assumed names, and, in the scariest instance, threatened me with violence when I was pregnant.

We banned her from this blog, because we couldn’t devote our days to moderating her inflammatory comments, but she now has her own blog devoted to attacking us.

The other is another anonymous blogger who is calling for a boycott.

The latest round concerns an obnoxious comment in our comments section, which we deleted — but which, more important, had already been self-moderated by other readers and commenters whose views, I’d like to think, represent the values of the neighborhood and the blog, and why I think this blog is such a wonderful representation of our open, diverse community.

Much as I love doing this, some days, the relentless slander makes me question whether any of this is worth it, and I just wanted to thank the Ditmas Park Blog community for being the grown-ups that you are and not letting the conversation here deteriorate into a juvenile, divisive shouting match the way these bloggers would like it to.

  3. I am wondering why you haven't posted links to these sites that The Ditmas park Blog 'won't feature'. I am curious to see what they are. perhaps there are other reasons that they aren't linked to - why not let us the readers decide what we think?

  4. You write:

'This is just another example of what Mr. Smith with his feminine lisp and his emasculating "wife" are doing in order to create an all white Ditmas Park Blog.'

How can you expect to have any discourse with these people when you write about them with such petty disrespect? It's totally fine that you disagree with them, but it's just immature to address them this way.

  5. Sure maybe describing his lisp was rude but when i first started trying to get in touch with them they still refused to comment. I was nice at the beginning but was completely appalled that they would ignore me.

  6. So, let me get this straight. Because someone ignored you, you have the right to mock and degrade them because of a physical characteristic over which they have no control?

Are you that blind to irony? Even more fundamentally, what are you, a third grader?

  7. They ignored me because I am black. I doubt that they would have ignored a commenter if they were white.

  8. Ah, I see now. Your supposition is they have some sort of race-detecting comment filter.

I still don't get how that gives you license to use tactics -- mocking and degrading someone because of a physical characteristic over which they have no control -- you claim to abhor and stand against.

  9. How did they know you were black?

  10. I think Eloise suffered some permanent impairment after she was tossed out of the Plaza Hotel.
